Meet Tom, see his work, and shop for art in the historic Georgetown Neighborhood of Seattle, Washington:
Where:  Rainier Cold Center, 5626 Airport Way S, Seattle, Washington 98108-2710 (click for map).   Driving Directions:
  1. South of downtown Seattle, take Interstate 5, Exit #162 (Corson-Michigan).
  2. In the Exit ramp, stay in the left lane. At the bottom of the ramp, take the third left onto S. Harney St. (or first or second left on potholed Vale or Nebraska St).
  3. Go a long block, then left on Airport Way South.
  4. Go to the north end of the big brick Rainier Cold Center buildings (seen on your right) and turn right into the parking lot (or go through the alley between two of the brick buildings to another parking lot out back, next to the railroad tracks).
  5. On the north end of the brick building of 5626 Airport Way S, enter the double doors, go up the stairs on the second floor, to find the Watercolor and Beeswax Encaustic Studio of Deborah Stachowic where Tom Dempsey will have a table of photographs.

History of the Rainier Cold Storage Building: "Deborah Stachowic's studio is located in an 1890's registered historic building south of downtown Seattle, in the historic Georgetown area. This venerable building lies sandwiched between Airport Way South (formerly a gravel road) and train tracks at the back. The Rainier Beer Company originally used this building as Rainier Cold Storage, and it retains impressive 18-inch thick wooden braces and beams. In the past, horses pulled beer wagons up ramps right into the building, through the large loading dock doors that now enter my studio! Nowadays many artists have moved in and converted the building into a beehive of creativity, with stimulating interaction between different disciplines."

About
Photoseek.com, by photographer Tom Dempsey
My web site www.photoseek.com showcases the best of my 30 years of nature travel photography, and is a popular image source for 20,000 "U.S. monthly people" (according to Quantcast). For starters, take a look at My Fine Art Gallery. I invite you to browse or purchase a print or license a file of any image. Ask me for FREE photo-travel advice, and read what's new on my photo-travel blog. If you are in the Seattle area, take my personal photography workshops, or view my world-class photo-travel shows.
Early influences on my photography have been the California flower images of my botanist father, the images in National Geographic Magazine, and the creative outdoor adventure photography of the late Galen Rowell.  In 1978, I purchased my first 35mm SLR camera for shooting color slide film. For nine months in 1981, I traveled around the world seeing New Zealand, Nepal, Norway, France, & Switzerland. Ever since that trip of a lifetime, I have lived in the State of Washington, a place of exceptionally diverse beauty, a great home base for launching excursions to over 20 countries.
Since Fall 2003, digital cameras have rejuvenated my photography with instant feedback.
Compact digital cameras make perfect travel companions, easily beating the size, weight and quality of my earlier 35mm film cameras. As of 2008, digital SLR cameras such as my Nikon D60 system put more power than ever in a lightweight body, especially when coupled with a sharp image-stabilized lens.
138 of my images have been published (click here for portfolio) in books (
National Geographic Traveler Greece; Moon Turkey Handbook; Dorling Kindersley), in magazines (Nature Journal of Science; National Geographic Maps; Sierra; Wilderness Travel Catalog; PC Photo), in Reuters News Pictures Service, and other publications.
