Ama Dablam is a beautiful mountain, seen here near Pangboche, in the Himalaya range of eastern Nepal. The main peak is 22,349 feet (or 6,812 meters) tall, first climbed in 1961. The lower western peak is 18,251 feet (or 5,563 meters). Ama Dablam means "Mother and Pearl Necklace" (because the bulging hanging glacier is thought of as the pearl). For several days, Ama Dablam dominates the eastern sky for anyone trekking towards Everest Base Camp.
